Restaurant history
Welcome to our restaurant. You are located in a historic building from 1923 in the heart of the wineries of Crete, in the village of Dafnes 15 minutes from Heraklion. It belongs to the Giakoumakis family.
During World War II it was occupied by German forces and used as an arsenal. In 2006 it was first opened as a restaurant to the public, by the mother of the family Maria and in November 2024 it was passed on to the younger members of the family to continue their legacy. Here we make everything by hand, from the ingredients to the dish. From the bread to the pasta, everything is cooked like in the good old days.

Arodamos
The name "Arodamos" in the Cretan dialect means "tender sprout" or "new branch", like the fresh foliage that sprouts in spring, symbolizing rebirth and a new beginning.
Our philosophy
From the first day of our operation, in November 2024, we set a clear goal: to create dishes that are truly handmade, authentic and deeply connected to our place. Since 2026, we have been trying to grow our own vegetables and herbs, trying to reach self-sufficiency and the quality that we want to offer gradually. We use a unique, traditional, handmade two-level wood-fired oven, which is the heart of our preparations and serving. We collaborate exclusively with local producers for our meat, dairy and cheeses, choosing raw materials that honor the Cretan land. With respect for tradition and a creative eye, we transform classic ingredients into modern and simple dishes with character. We are located in the center of the wineries of Heraklion and collaborate with distinguished, recognized winemakers of the region, creating unique food and wine combinations that highlight the local wine culture. We are still at the beginning of our journey and continue to evolve daily, staying true to our values: handmade, local, authentic, creative . Thank you for your support.

Dafnes Village
The village of Dafnes is a very old village, perhaps from the 11th century. It is located 18 kilometers south of Heraklion and has an altitude of 320 meters. It is one of the main villages of the prefecture of Heraklion with a population of approximately 1,500 residents. The name of the village is a phytonym from the laurel plant. According to tradition, a laurel tree had grown near the temple of Agia Zoni and it took its name from it. The main occupation of the Dafnians is agriculture. In Dafnes, 3,500 acres of sultanas and 1,000 acres of vines are currently cultivated, producing 2,000 tons of wine annually. 70 traditional rakokazanas also operate in the village. The excellent soil conditions of the area have earned Dafnes one of the four Protected Designations of Origin (PDO) in Crete. The wine from the “Liatiko” grape variety, which is vinified in a predetermined way, is labeled “DAFNES, Protected Designation of Origin (PDO)”.
